VS Cargo Ltd
VS Cargo Ltd was established in 1998 with an aim to handle rail logistics into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from various Sub-Saharan African countries. The company’s strategic operations shifted in 2003 when it moved to the Katanga Province, aligning with growth in cargo volumes and the need to support rail and road movements.
To support this expansion, VS Cargo commissioned a transit and bonded warehousing facility in Ndola by the end of December 2006. This facility was designed to manage both rail and road logistics, reflecting the company’s integrated approach to multimodal handling. In late 2008, another warehouse facility was added to the portfolio, featuring an 80-tonne electronic weighbridge and enhanced rail and road handling capabilities. The expansion included the addition of a Sulphur Shed and a combined warehousing and office complex, totaling more than 40,000 square meters of space.
During the same period, VS Cargo established RMK Enterprises Ltd in 2008, which operates as the company’s clearing and forwarding division. RMK Enterprises Ltd maintains offices at major borders in Zambia and handles RIT (Removal in Transit), RIB (Relief in Bond), bonding, and ex-bonding activities, along with final clearing processes. This structure underscores the company’s end-to-end logistics capabilities across border procedures and supply chain documentation.
In response to security concerns in the copper and cobalt sector, VS Cargo created an in-house Security Fleet in late 2009. This security operation supports abnormal load escorts and permits throughout Zambia and also secures fuel in transit by rail from South Africa to various destinations in the DRC. The security framework complements the company’s freight and warehousing services, ensuring integrity and safe movement of high-value cargo.
VS Cargo operates VS Security SARL in the DRC as its security operations arm, extending load security from mine sites to final destinations. The company has executed projects for important mining operations across the region, including FRONTIER MINE (FQM) for bagging and export of copper concentrates on site and subsequent handling in Ndola; DCP for bagging and export by rail from Kolwezi of cobalt concentrates destined for South Africa; MUMI for rail export at Kisenda to South Africa and Zambia; and GECAMINES coal-related movements. These engagements illustrate VS Cargo’s experience in handling specialized, mineral-focused cargo along complex cross-border routes.
Core services and capabilities include security escort and abnormal load escort, clearing and forwarding, warehousing, and transport and logistics. The combination of bonded warehousing, customs-related capabilities, rail and road handling, and on-ground security support positions VS Cargo as a comprehensive logistics provider within the Zambia–DRC corridor and adjacent markets. The company continues to emphasize integrated solutions that address infrastructure limitations, border procedures, and the security of valuable shipments across multiple transport modes.
Overall, VS Cargo Ltd presents itself as a long-standing, multi-faceted freight forwarding and logistics company with deep regional experience, a robust warehousing footprint, a dedicated clearing and forwarding arm, and security operations designed to protect high-value and sensitive cargo throughout the supply chain.
