With more than 35 years in the shipping industry, ASLI has developed a robust network of vessels and routes that connect numerous ports across the country, underpinning its reputation as a premier passenger and cargo carrier in its specialized market. The company’s portfolio includes a fleet of passenger and cargo vessels that serve over 11 ports of call nationwide, reflecting its capability to handle both people and goods with consistency and reliability.

ASLI’s history began in 1976 when it was established as a sole proprietorship by Mr. Feliciano N. Tan, Sr. The launch of its mother ship, MV Estrella Del Mar, a steel-hulled passenger and cargo vessel, marked the company’s entry into coastal transport with an initial focus on rice shipments to nearby islands. Over time, ASLI expanded its services to meet growing demand, transitioning into a corporation in 1987 while continuing under the leadership of Mr. Tan, Sr. The company’s expansion included the establishment of key international and regional routes, most notably the Zamboanga–Sandakan route (Zamboanga Port, Philippines to Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia) which was strengthened in 1994 as part of the BIMP-EAGA initiative. ASLI deployed the 2,300.82 GRT passenger/cargo vessel M/V Lady Mary Joy to facilitate this service, illustrating its role in cross-border maritime commerce and cooperation with government programs.

In 1999, ASLI emerged as a pioneering Zamboanga-based operator to containerize cargo shipments, serving multiple ports including Zamboanga, Dipolog, Bacolod, Cebu, and Manila. The company has also contributed to regional mobility through government-aligned programs such as the Expanded Strong Republic Nautical Highway, utilizing Roll-on & Roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessels to service routes to Tawi-Tawi, Bongao, Isabela, and Lamitan in Basilan. The ongoing modernization of the fleet is reflected in the launch of ASLI’s first fast sea craft, M/V Sea Jet, in 2004, demonstrating a commitment to improved speed and efficiency in passenger and cargo transport.

ASLI emphasizes compliance with international safety and security standards, including the International Safety Management Code and the International Code for the Security of Ships & Port Facilities. The company implements a Safety Management System across its land-based offices and onboard its managed vessels, coupled with periodic audits and reviews to maintain seaworthiness and service quality.
