Energy Resources LLC, established in 2005 as a joint investment involving leading Mongolian private sector players such as the MCS Group, Petrovis, and Shunkhlai Group, operates within Mongolia's mining sector. The company holds a mining license for the Ukhaa Khudag coking coal deposit located in Umnugobi Aimag, underscoring its role in the country’s coal resources development. Over the years, Energy Resources has pursued integrated strategic initiatives to expand its operational footprint beyond mining to support infrastructure development that enhances the overall efficiency of its coal supply chain. In 2008, the Government of Mongolia approved the company’s plan to build a 270-kilometer railway link from Ukhaa Khudag to Gashuunsukhait at the Mongolian-Chinese border, a project aimed at facilitating smoother export logistics and improving accessibility to international markets. The company’s stated mission focuses on contributing to Mongolia’s economic development, industrialization, and modernization, with a broader vision of evolving into a global coal and coal chemistry products manufacturing and marketing entity. In addition to mining and coal processing facilities at the Ukhaa Khudag site, Energy Resources has been involved in adjacent infrastructure development efforts, including potential projects related to power generation (combined heat and power plant) and water supply, as well as continued exploration of railway and related logistics improvements that could support export activities.
