Gapima Sdn
Gapima Sdn Bhd is a Malaysian logistics provider with a long-standing history in freight forwarding, stevedoring, and related services. Established initially in 1974 by a group of Bumiputera businessmen, the company began its operations in forwarding and stevedoring and subsequently attracted the attention of larger corporate groups. Over the years, Gapima’s evolution has been shaped by strategic ownership changes and a focus on expanding its service portfolio to meet evolving market demands.
In the mid-1990s, Gapima was appointed as an official Government Freight Forwarder and Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO). This credential signaled a shift toward formal government-linked logistics operations and reinforced Gapima’s role in handling complex multimodal shipments. Concurrently, the company expanded into shipping agency activities and secured a Petronas license to operate freight forwarding, transportation, and marine activities. These developments paved the way for Gapima to actively participate in the oil and gas sector, where offshore support logistics and marine-related services would later become core capabilities.
Corporate transitions continued in the 2000s. In 2005, Gapima was acquired by the UEM Group, broadening its scope to serve the Group’s own logistics needs, including coal supply and dredging-related logistics for major infrastructure projects such as the Penang Bridge expansion. On 8 September 2010, Baine Consulting Sdn Bhd acquired Gapima from UEM. Since then, Gapima has concentrated on restructuring to establish itself as a respected player in Malaysia’s logistics industry, with an emphasis on reliability, process discipline, and customer-centric solutions.
Today, Gapima emphasizes project cargo management and offshore logistics for the oil and gas sector. The company leverages its experience in complex, high-stakes shipments to provide offshore support logistics to major oil and gas companies and exploration or drilling operators. Through business process outsourcing (BPO) and an integrated information technology (IT) logistics system, Gapima aims to operate as a leading fourth-party logistics (4PL) provider. This approach centers on coordinating end-to-end supply chain activities via a shared platform designed to optimize planning, execution, and monitoring.
Gapima positions itself as a customer-driven organization that collaborates with a diverse mix of government entities, public institutions, private corporations, family-owned firms, and start-ups. The company emphasizes the development of tailored logistics plans and the delivery of high-quality execution, with a focus on reliability and practical solutions. While its roots span several decades, Gapima continues to adapt by integrating technology and process improvements to meet contemporary logistics challenges.
As a Malaysian logistics partner based in Selangor, Gapima’s footprint covers the dynamic oil and gas corridor as well as broader supply chain needs. The organization’s history of licenses, industry affiliations, and sector-specific capabilities positions it to manage complex, multimodal, and offshore projects that require meticulous coordination, safety compliance, and experience in marine operations. Gapima’s evolving portfolio reflects a balance between traditional forwarding expertise and modern 4PL-style supply chain management aimed at delivering value through collaboration and robust logistics practices.
