XI’AN REFRA TUNGSTEN & MOLYBDENUM CO.,LTD. (REFRA) operates as a high-tech enterprise and is a holding subsidiary of Western Metal Materials (WMM). The company traces its roots to the Sixth Research Department of Northwest Institute for Non-ferrous Metal Research, reflecting a foundation in research, processing, and technology development for rare metal materials. REFRA evolved from the Tungsten & Molybdenum Materials and Products Branch of WMM and, following corporate reforms, became a joint stock enterprise with independent legal status in February 2010. In November 2013, strategic equity investment by C&L Development Corp. positioned REFRA as a Sino-foreign joint venture with a registered capital of 50 million RMB.
In 2013, XI’AN REFRA committed substantial investment—90 million RMB—to develop high-quality tungsten and molybdenum materials and products within Xi’an Economic and Technological Development Zone. The project entered official operation in September 2015. The facility plan includes the addition of rolling mill units (2800mm hot roller integration) and deep processing equipment, enabling the production of tungsten and molybdenum plates, sheets, and deep-processed products with an annual capacity targeted at 450 tons. This capacity expansion positions REFRA to achieve an internationally advanced production level in its core materials portfolio.
REFRA’s operations are oriented toward productivity in the development, production, and marketing of refractory metal materials, including tungsten and tungsten alloys, molybdenum and molybdenum alloys, tantalum, niobium products, and related sheet, plate, strip, foil, wire, rod, and pipe formats. The company also designs and manufactures industrial furnaces, heaters, and heat shields as part of its integrated manufacturing footprint. Through its strategic relationship with WMM and its joint venture structure, REFRA emphasizes advanced material solutions for high-tech applications and industrial processing needs.
